HAVFOLK (Mer People) – concerts and circle dance at Snedkeriet in Ebeltoft
May 18th and June 1st, 2024.
A new and experimental concert format with Toneregn and textile designer Sara Lystlund.
Sara Lystlund had created a visual universe inspired by the sea and the beach.
The two days were built on the same model:
Part 1: An invitation to sit for a moment and dream of the sea, while listening to improvisations for piano, flute and nature sounds.
Meanwhile, you could experience the textile installation and living water projected onto the wall via overhead projector.
Part 2: An invitation to be part of the performance and the atmosphere that was built up in part 1. The audience was invited to dance in the middle of the room and learned simple dance steps and a song.
The deep Celtic D flute played by Vibe was purchased from instrument maker Rob Gandara from Oregon, whom she met at the folk festival Le Son Continu in France in the summer of 2023. Rob has the company Carbony Celtic Winds.
At the same festival, she purchased a frame drum from the German drum maker David Roman.
The Le Son Continu festival helped inspire the concert format with shared circle dancing.
Performers:
Sara Lystlund: Installation
Vibe Ulbrandt: Flute, frame drums, vocals
Niels Ulbrandt: Piano, laptop
The project was supported by Syddjurs Municipality and DMF Djursland.
