Ensemble Toneregn performs newly written music by Vibe Ulbrandt and Niels Ulbrandt.
We are inspired by nature, philosophy and the cosmos, and we love the magic when music collaborates with other art forms and disciplines.
The musical language is a crossover between folk music, jazz and classical.
Some compositions are sound collages that are a little harder to define a genre, using, for example, sounds recorded in nature. We play both acoustically and electro-acoustically.
Our passion is to create encounters in art, and our projects have involved art forms such as dance, visual arts, textile design and gastronomy.
MUSICIANS IN TONEREGN:
Vibe Ulbrandt is a singer and multi instrumentalist. She plays instruments as frame drums, flutes, piano and guitar. Her singing is influenced by both rhythmic and classical training, as well as a love of Celtic folk music.
Composes for Ensemble Toneregn, and is often a multi-artist with both composition and visual works in connection with projects.
As a composer, she won 3rd prize with the work “Stjernerne vil lege” (The stars want to play) for female choir and accordion, in the Nordic competition “La Cappella Composition Award”, Uppsala 2026.
Niels Ulbrandt is a trained jazz pianist, with a taste for extended harmony and improvisation. He plays the piano, keyboards and electronics.
Composes for Ensemble Toneregn.
Malthe Volfing Højager is a trained cellist at the classical conservatory’s soloist class. He masters many techniques within new classical music, and also plays in the rhythmic genre. He often uses effects as part of his sound.
Susanne Bechmann is a conservatory-trained flutist, and plays many different flutes and recorders.
Ensemble Toneregn likes to do projects that involve other art forms.
